What to Expect
Written and verbal instructions will be given to you when your surgery is booked and again during the call to confirm your appointment. Below, we provide an online checklist to help you prepare for your surgery. Keep in mind apprehension is normal but the actual LASIK procedure is safe, fast and painless!
   
- Do not wear eye make-up on the day of surgery or for two weeks after the procedure.
- Leave soft contact lenses out at least 72 hours prior to surgery. Wear glasses on the day of surgery.
- Bring a driver to take you home after the procedure.
- Please eat as normal before surgery. Do not fast.
- Altogether, preparation, procedure and recovery will take about an hour to 90 minutes. Arrive 30 minutes before scheduled surgery.
- Prior to surgery, 10mg of Valium will be given orally to relax you.
- After surgery, go home and sleep for six to eight hours. You will be sent home with two 1mg tablets of Lorazepam to help you rest.
- Have over-the-counter pain relief medication, ie. Tylenol at home in case you experience pain.
- Before going home you will receive a follow-up appointment early the next morning after surgery.
- Payment is due on the day of surgery. We accept VISA, MasterCard, American Express or cash or bank cheque such as a certified cheque, cashier's cheque or money order. Please, no personal cheques. Make payment to: The Windsor Laser Eye Institute.
